Wanted: your Birmingham music suggestions for The Big Paws

In celebration of Birmingham Music Month, The Big Paws (Saturdays 8-10am on Rhubarb Radio) are doing a one-off special show on 6th June playing only Birmingham music.

Our guest will be Jez from the Birmingham Music Archive and we’re going to pick our favourite Birmingham music gems. But. We’re going to turn half the show over to you — to pick your favourite brum bands and songs.

You can suggest anything you like, but we’ll not be deviating too far from the Big Paws policy of playing brand new tunes and obscure classics — so try and think of something that we and our audience might not have heard before.

Please leave suggestions in the comments here or on The Big Paws blog.

Ta very much,

Jules and Jon from The Big Paws xxx

    Mitch & Murray!

Though technically they are Black Country so I guess they don’t count…

Anything by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osborne, Jimmy Page or Robert Plant. I know everyone will have heard that stuff before, but there are some obscure classics amongst their stuff and no one could possibly object to hearing any of their material. (In the humble opinion of a Rock DJ, of course). The Moody Blues were also from here, so you may want to consider some of their stuff. Other than that, you could search Google for any new up-and-coming local bands and artists, who have new material out or do covers of some of the rare, classic tracks. Two good places to ask for information are the Polar Bear in Kings Heath and Swordfish, in the City Centre. Failing that, try HMV. They’re always a mine of information.
